Lessons Learned in Legalized States

  • Mahwah Municipal Alliance 221 Franklin Turnpike Mahwah, NJ, 07430 United States (map)

Join Kevin Sabet, PhD, who will share current facts about legalization and its goals in states where it is permitted.

Today’s marijuana is much more potent than in the past — with pot edibles, candies, cookies, ice creams, and waxes being up to 99% THC, compared to 5% THC in the Woodstock era.

Kevin Sabet, PhD, is the President and CEO of Smart Approaches to Marijuana (SAM).

The rise of potent legalized marijuana products poses significant risks to teenagers’ health and development. With higher concentrations of THC, today’s marijuana can lead to increased instances of addiction, mental health issues, and impaired cognitive function. Adolescents are particularly vulnerable as their brains are still developing, making them more susceptible to the negative effects of these potent substances. Additionally, the perception of legalization may convey a sense of safety, leading to greater experimentation and usage among youth. It is crucial for parents, educators, and communities to understand these dangers and engage in open conversations with teenagers about responsible choices and the potential consequences of using high-THC marijuana products.
